Marine engine fire prevention

For a company that makes oil fire prevention systems for large marine engine rooms, KonektSens developed a wireless data acquisition system that makes relevant sensor data available online to ship crews, fleet owners and the sensor maker itself.

The system detects potential fires in a very early stage by monitoring the oil vapours that are released by engine oil leaks. By detecting potential fires before they occur, the substantial costs and hazards associated with an engine room fire can be avoided.

Ship crews use the online information to analyse alarms and to plan preventive maintenance. Fleet owners use the system to maintain an up-to-date overview of alarms accross all their ships. The sensor maker used the information to improve detection algorithms, e.g. to reduce the number of false alarms.
